Digital sports media company Perform – owner of football news brand Goal – has struck a partnership with mobile voice provider Kirusa to launch services for mobile subscribers in the emerging African market.

Deal: Perform, owner of Goal, has partnered with Kirusa

The deal means subscribers to ‘Sports Connect’ can receive daily and breaking voice and text updates straight to their mobiles, covering events at English, French and Spanish football clubs. The Sports Connect service has so-far pulled in more than 1.5 million followers in Africa.

Singh Mumick, CEO at Kirusa, said: “We have always been driven to offer engaging experiences to mobile subscribers.

“We are existed that Perform has partnered with us to produce exclusive sports content in a new medium, and to bring it to fans across Africa.”

Subscribers can listen to the 60-to-90-second updates on their mobiles to find out the latest events at major European clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal and Manchester United.

Mobile connectivity in Africa accounts for a substantial source of internet traffic on the continent and smartphone sales are increasing.
