Twitter is currently testing a system that lets users mute accounts that become annoying.

Unlike blocking on unfollowing, the mute function would used for short periods of times on the mobile app, for example, users who constantly tweet football matches during the weekend, or someone who may be watching an episode of a show that you won’t be able to watch until later.

Being trialled on Apple iOS and Google Android apps, muting was a popular tool on Tweetdeck, which was acquired by Twitter in 2011.

Users will not be able to see that their tweets have been muted.
