Regional carrier Flybe has announced the appointment of Andrew McConnell to serve as its new director of communications and public affairs, after being hand-picked for his travel industry experience at the likes of Heathrow Express and Gatwick Express.

McConnell arrives following a six-year career in the aviation industry, most recently as the head of UK corporate and public affairs at Easyjet. His new role will see him develop Flybe’s corporate, media relations, internal communications and public affairs strategies.

Paul Simmons, chief commercial officer at Flybe, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Andrew on board and look forward to the significant contribution he will make at Flybe. He is a highly effective and driven communications professional with a proven track record of delivering high profile and innovative work. As we continue to deliver on our turnaround plan and enter a new era of growth, Andrew’s role will be invaluable to our success.”

Andrew McConnell added: “Flybe represents an exciting challenge and an enormous opportunity: this is a business whose transformation is well underway and which has enormous potential to grow exponentially as it becomes Europe’s best regional airline. I am excited to be part of this journey and look forward to working with the excellent team at Flybe to help deliver the airline’s ambitions.”
