Internet giant Yahoo is believed to be plotting to unseat Google as the default search option on Apple devices by seeking to persuade the tech firm to ditch its rival.

The idea is the brainchild of Yahoo CEO Marissa Meyer who sees it as a key step in reversing her company’s waning fortunes.

At present the default setting brings up Google’s minimalist screen with people wishing to use rival platforms; such as Microsoft’s Bing, having to manually change their settings.

With no love lost between Google and Apple however the smartphone maker is thought to be receptive to the idea of changing its priorities and has already switched to Bing to power its Siri voice communications.

Yahoo is said to be planning a major overhaul of its search functionality and the two are said to enjoy good relations, but Apple is keenly aware that its customers highly value Google’s software.
