Researchers in Japan have jumped upon the hi-tech glasses bandwagon sparked by Google by concocting their own take on the specs of the future.

The device incorporates special OLED lenses which display a creepy flickering pair of zombie eyes over the wearer’s true visage, allowing the owner to mask their true feelings from others.

Developed by Prof Hirotaka Osawa the device has the express intent of creating an ‘emotional cyborg’ and is touted as being suitable for use by nurses, waiters, teachers and therapists who work in people-centric environments.

Speaking to the BBC Osawa said: “Our developed society requires workers to behave more socially. AgencyGlass aims to support such kinds of emotional labour by extending users' social abilities with technology, just as robots already support our physical labours and computers support our mental activity.”

The interactive glecs also respond to body movements, displaying a blink if the owner nods and looking upwards when the wearer inclines their head.

For the complete look we can look forward to a follow-up face mask which Osawa promises will mimic the human smile for those unable or unwilling to do so in the traditional manner.
