JWT to bring back J. Walter Thompson Company name, Sorrell hints
Sir Martin Sorrell, CEO of WPP, has hinted that JWT, one of the companies under the corporation’s umbrella, could be set to rebrand.
The ad agency JWT, could be set to go back to its J. Walter Thompson Company name, Sorrell said, saying that the change would be “a slick and a good move”.
JWT is this year celebrating 150 years, and has worked with brands such as Nike, Nestle, Walmart, Microsoft and the US Marine Corp.
Bob Jeffrey, worldwide chief executive of JWT, has said that the re-launch of the old name is expected to be effective from the end of 2014, to tie with the official 150 celebration on 5 December.
“We felt it would be a perfect time to return to the J. Walter Thompson name,” Jeffery told a reporter, following a Wall Street Journal breakfast meeting.
The move comes after JWT resurrected its old logo – featuring an owl and a lamp – for its anniversary celebrations.
A UK spokesperson has not replied to a request for comment.
This comes only a month after Draftfcb changed its name, with the agency now known as FCB Inferno in the UK.
