Amazon is preparing to announce its first smartphone in June according to online reports.

The Wall Street Journal claims sources have confirmed that Amazon has demonstrated its hardware, which has 3D capabilities, to developers and plans to begin shipping in late September.

The device from the web retailer is rumoured to use retina-tracking technology embedded in four front-facing cameras or sensors, creating a 3D effect similar to a hologram which negates the need for glasses.

Reports of a device from Amazon have been rife since May 2013 when news surfaced that Amazon had two devices in development, with later reports suggesting a 13-megapixel camera on the rear and a 12-megapixel camera on the front.

HTC has previously been linked to Amazon's smartphone efforts, the latest device released by Amazon was the Amazon Dash which allows users to can or say items and add it to a shopping list.
