Two grandmothers from the Netherlands featured in the latest of the Vodafone Firsts series when they accepted a challenge to fly for the first time.

An, 71, overcame her fear of flying to take on the challenge while 78-year-old Ria took the journey after the death of her late husband, who never flew due to a fear of heights.

Travelling in a private jet from Amsterdam to Barcelona, An said: “If I don’t do this now, I never will. Sometimes opportunities come by in life that you just have to take.”

The Vodafone Firsts series aims to “inspire people to do something remarkable for the first time using mobile technology”.

When An and Ria touched down in Barcelona, they were provided with tablet devices to keep in touch with their nearest and dearest.
