Luggage manufacturer and retailer Samsonite has acquired French luggage brand Lipault in a deal worth €20m.

Deal: Samsonite has acquired Lipault

The company was founded in 2005 and is known for its fashionable luggage designs. Its products include business and laptop bags, handbags and suitcases.

Tim Parker, chairman and CEO of Samsonite, said: “Lipault is a chic and youthful brand that will allow us to engage with consumers through its signature Parisian style and vibrant colours, and will be an excellent complement to the Samsonite brand. We expect it will have great appeal with women, especially those travelling frequently.”

Lipault’s net sales grew by a quarter in 2013 to €6.5m, with 95 per cent of its business coming from France. The company operates three retail stores in Paris, and has corners in major department stores and luggage dealers. It also has third party licence and distribution deals in the US, the Middle East, South Korea and other Southeast Asian markets.
