A teenage mum from Stoke-on-Trent has been named as the creator of a no make-up selfie craze which has swept the internet over the past week.

Fiona Cunningham helped create the original Facebook selfie page after seeing actress Kim Novak attend this month’s Oscars without any make-up on.

Since then the No Make Up Selfie for Cancer Awareness Facebook page has garnered 250,000 likes with thousands jumping on the bandwagon to post #nomakeupselfie shots of themselves alongside a £3 donation to charity.

Cancer Research UK have now received £8m in donations as a result which will be put toward funding 10 clinical trials.

Speaking to the Stoke Sentinel Cunningham said: ”The Stoke Sentinel: ‘After seeing nothing similar on Facebook or Twitter, I thought there was something in it that it could raise awareness of cancer and how girls do not need to wear make-up.”
