The great and the good of TV and radio news battled it out in the eighth Ultimate News Quiz last night (Thursday 20 March), raising £101,000 for Action for Children and Restless Development.

After eight gruelling rounds Sky News came in first, followed by ITV News in second and joint third was awarded to teams from Channel 4 News and BBC Newsnight.

Much like the Oscars before it, the event was the perfect opportunity to take a ‘selfie’ or two with Nick Robinson, political editor at the BBC and quizmaster, taking the ‘Ultimate News Selfie’ featuring Jon Snow, Alistair Stewart, Mary Nightingale, Natasha Kaplinsky, Jon Sopel, Dermot Murnaghan, Martha Kearney and Adam Boulton alongside him. So far the image has been retweeted 332 times so it has a fair way to go to catch up with Ellen's famous snap.

During the night Minister of State Hugo Swire acted as auctioneer and Splash! contestant Penny Mourdant MP and former England footballer Graham Le Saux hosted a special guest round. Items auctioned off included a Golden Morph, tickets to the final of University Challenge, signed football boots from Manchester United’s Tom Cleverly, a Stig skateboard signed by the presenters of Top Gear, a Google Nexus 5, an original Alex cartoon strip, and Mordaunt’s swimsuit from Splash! which raised £600.

A celebrity hamper, which included Jeremy Paxman’s homemade marmalade, honey from passionate beekeeper Bill Turnbull and eggs from Natasha Kaplinsky’s chickens, was also auctioned off to raise funds which will go towards helping support children and young people in the UK, Africa and Asia.
