Facebook has revealed that a quarter of its UK users are friends with their mum on the platform, while two thirds of its users in the UK begin shopping for Mother's Day a week in advance or less.

The social media platform has released the results of a poll conducted ahead of Mother's Day that found that of its 4.1m mothers who use Facebook, 88 per cent of them visited each day, with 12pm - 3pm the most popular time.

Of the 601 responses Facebook received to its poll, two thirds revealed that they waited until the week prior to Mother's Day to make plans with beauty products found to be the most discussed gift, followed by chocolates and Oragami gifts driving more conversations around Mother's Day than flowers or cards.

It was also revealed that most conversation around the day is from people aged between 13-24.

Mothers, in comparison to women over the age of 18, were also twice as likely to comment and upload 1.6 more pictures on average.
