Customers of virtual mobile network operator Ovivo have been left fuming after the service was abruptly pulled by its owners over night without warning or reason.

The service allowed customers access to Vodafone’s network for no monthly subscription fee, relying solely upon advertising instead with users being fed promotions every 10 minutes.

It was a model which appeared to enjoy some success in its two years of trading but the phone service has now been disabled and customers are unable to access their online accounts to retrieve credit.

Facebook and Twitter accounts associated with the business have also been pulled.

In a statement Ovivo said: “We are very sad to announce that for reasons beyond our control, OVIVO Mobile is closing down on the evening of Wednesday 19th March 2014.

“We'd like to thank each and every one of you for your support and friendship over the last two years.”
