Newsweek print re-launch derailed by Bitcoin furore
Newsweek’s much vaunted return to print media has suffered a setback after the man it outed as the creator of Bitcoin in a front page exclusive, Dorian Satoshi Nakamoto, vowed to take legal action to ‘clear his name’..
Newsweek says that it ‘stands strongly’ behind the controversial report but is now facing a backlash from an irate Nakamoto who has been hounded by the press ever since the story broke.
Nakamoto said: “I did not create, invent or otherwise work on BitCoin. I unconditionally deny the Newsweek report.”
The 64 year-old unemployed software engineer from Temple City, California, added: “The first time I heard the term ‘Bitcoin’ was from my son in mid-February 2014. After being contacted by a reporter, my son called me and used the word, which I had never heard before.”
In a statement Newsweek said: “Newsweek has not received any statement or letter from either Mr. Nakamoto or his legal counsel. If and when we do, we will respond as necessary.”
