A good Samaritan who witnessed a motorists car being hit by a truck has found himself the subject of a mammoth Facebook and Twitter manhunt as social media users seek to identify a mysterious stranger known only as ‘Lee’.

The search was instigated after Lee scrawled a quick note and pinned it to the front windscreen of the stricken car, giving the registration number of the truck involved but failing to identify himself.

Now the owner of the vehicle, Natalie-Jane Davey, has started a #FindLee campaign to locate the individual after being informed by police said they were unable to take any action without a witness willing to testify.

The incident occurred in Richmond, London, on the 13 March, prompting Davey to plead: “For the police to be able to prosecute I need to find Lee. I'd also like to say thank you to him and buy him a beer! If you wrote this note, please get I'm touch!”

Thus far the photograph has been liked by over 10,000 people and generated its own #FindLee hashtag.
