Foster’s is set to roll out the latest in its series of Good Call ads, featuring agony uncles Brad and Dan, on 31 March.

Named Economy, the 30 second ad by adam&eveDDB sees a caller from Cardiff complaining that his friend ruins guy’s night out by talking about the economy.

Dan unveils the paddle of rebuke – a table tennis racquet with a fearful momobrow – and uses it on Brad for musing about the way “the volatility of the financial markets in developed economies affects us all.”

Gayle Harrison, brand director for Foster’s at brand owner Heineken, said: “The creative was inspired by research which shows that, as young men grow older and responsibilities increase, time spent socialising with friends becomes less frequent and more precious. They want to make the most of time together and they are genuinely horrified by the prospect of a mate wasting valuable time for pub banter by talking about subjects they regard as ‘serious, boring stuff’.”

As well as an original burst of advertising, set to run until mid-May, the ad will also air during coverage of Fifa World Cup matches, as well as between 25 August and 12 October, with media planning and buying through StarcomMediaVest.
