Ex-Man City and England player Steve Howey will be ‘yapping’ live with fans during Man City’s Champions League second-leg match against Barcelona as part of the launch campaign for SportsYapper, a social media application for sports fans.

UM London has been tasked with handling media planning and buying for the app and though the account was originally won by UM in the US, the UK will be SportsYapper’s first national launch.

The purpose-built mobile app enables sports fans to share the thrill of games with friends and fellow supporters.

Howley’s involvement comes as part of a deal with radio station Talksport for the rest of the football season which will include a series of on-air events enhancing the match day experience through SportsYapper.

“UM and Talksport understand that SportsYapper is all about the fan experience. SportsYapper makes matches more thrilling for passionate fans around the world and they don’t come more passionate than British fans, which is why the UK is the right place for our launch,” Brian Perkins, SportsYapper chairman said.

Tom Thacker, senior broadcast buyer for UM London, added: “It’s exciting to help launch SportsYapper to the UK market at such a pivotal time of the season, and Talksport has provided the perfect environment to do this.”

SportsYapper can be downloaded for free on iPhone, iPad and Android.
