PC World has failed to see the funny side of a spoof logo lampooning their business after it was inadvertently used by Google in place of its actual branding in its search results.

Created in 2008 using an old garish font the label describes the retailer as ‘like hell, but with worse customer service.’

The unflattering description was displayed alongside official stats about the business including a link to its website and map locations of nearby outlets.

Google hasn’t said if the mix-up arose as a result of some form of error or a specific attack but has now amended the results to show the correct logo after being contacted by PC World.

Commenting on the affair for the Telegraph James Briscoe, managing director of Unique Digital, said: “The front page of Google is your shop front, arguably more important than the physical store. Of course mistakes happen. But brands should care for it with the same vigour."

"The key in this real time world is how brands react -- hopefully quickly, effectively and with humour and grace.”
