ITV has announced plans to “improve our breakfast programming for our viewers”, by axing morning show Daybreak, with replacement Good Morning Britain to air from later this year.

BBC’s Susanna Reid is set to be one of the main presenters of the programme, along with Ben Shephard, Charlotte Hawkins and Sean Fletcher.

Earlier this month, it was rumoured that Reid had been offered £1m to leave BBC, following her popularity on Strictly Come Dancing.

Lorraine Kelly will now be at the helm of her own show, Lorraine, between 8.30am and 9.25am, five days a week, while Weekend, a new show, will be presented by current Daybreak host Aled Jones.

ITV director of daytime, Helen Warner, said of the move: “ITV has a first class roster of breakfast and daytime talent both on and off screen and I’m thrilled to be expanding this. Our overriding aim is to continue to improve our breakfast programming for our viewers and we have been working for some time behind the scenes developing the next chapter of our offering.

“Engaging, news driven content is our number one priority and will be at the heart of everything we do on Good Morning Britain.”

Daybreak replaced ITV’s prior breakfast show, GMTV, in 2010.
