Ellen DeGeneres lights up Twitter with Hollywood A-list Oscar selfie that breaks record for largest number of retweets

Ellen DeGeneres has garnered the record number of retweets for a selfie starring some of Hollywoods A-list actors taken during the Oscar ceremony. DeGeneres lined up Bradley Cooper to take the selfie shot in the audience during the ceremony, which included Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Kevin Spacey, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lawrence. Within hours the tweet had received over 2.3m retweets.

Missing from the image was Liza Minnelli who was at the back of the shot and was too short to be featured, which led to another selfie taken by DeGeneres, featuring Minnelli, that has been retweeted over 35,000 times. Meanwhile, Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch has also become a Twitter phenomenon while attending the event, photobombing U2 as they walked down the red carpet.
