Telegraph Media Group has appointed Chris Evans as Monday-Friday editor and Ian MacGregor as Saturday/Sunday editor amid a raft of editorial changes.

Shake up: TMG has announced editorial changes

The posts were confirmed by TMG’s editorial chief Jason Seiken, and include three new deputy editors Rob Winnett, Mark Skipworth and Liz Hunt. Former social media and engagement editor Kate Day has been named director of digital content and she will lead portal, mobile/iPad and interactive initiatives.

Ben Clissitt has been appointed digital director of visual journalism, and Richard Ellis will take responsibility for budgets across both print and digital. In addition, Dan Hickey has joined the Telegraph as general manager of lifestyle, and Gregg Stewart will take on the role of director of audience development. He will also be in charge of SEO, social media, newsletters and partnerships.

Seiken said: “As I have consistently emphasised, we cannot be great digitally if we are not great in print. Across their many combined years of service at the Telegraph, both Chris and Ian have demonstrated their ability to consistently produce quality newspapers. Both will play a critical role in the Telegraph’s digital transformation.

“The Telegraph is Britain’s best selling quality daily newspaper. We must build on this reputation across all platforms in the digital world, attracting new audiences and new commercial partners.”

Evans has been acting editor since the surprise departure of former Daily Telegraph editor Tony Gallagher last month. The decision was part of TMG’s plans to “build a wider audience and revenue in the digital media world”.
