Over 10 per cent of the world’s population now use social media to log into their favourite websites, research from Gigya has found.

The research from the connected consumer management company found logins through its Registration-as-a-Service and Social Login products increase by 72 per cent since 2012, and has now processed more than 1.5 billion logins since 2009.

“Gigya had an amazing year in 2013,” said Patrick Salyer, CEO of Gigya. “We added customers and offices around the globe and use of our technology exploded. We already have some exciting developments in store for 2014 and we have the team, products and momentum to own the consumer identity management market this year.”

The company’s aggressive expansion was fueled in part by a $25 million round of funding, which saw the company expand into France and Australia.
