Ad of the Day: Freeview - Cat and Budgie

Freeview has been teasing us all week with its #catandbudgie ‘What happens next’ trailer, and we certainly didn’t see this coming.

The trail ominously cut off with the cat managing to open the poor budgie’s cage and to be honest we thought the little bird would either be lunch, or about to star in its own version of Sylvester and Tweety Pie…how wrong we were.

Instead it seems the housecat, who we’re reliably informed is called Leo, has a bit of a crush on his feathered friend, and the feeling’s reciprocated.

The unlikely pair’s duet of the Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell Mowtown classic ‘You’re all I need to get by’ leaves their baffled owner in a state of shock.

But - just like watching Freeview - she was thoroughly entertained for nowt.

Maybe it’s the hangover from Valentine’s Day but who are we to stand in the way of true love, even if it is between two house pets

That's what we want to see...not a crocodile eating beautiful birds..as Sky used for themselves

What a stupid advert. Small children will think it is ok to open a budgie cage door when there is a cat around.

Personally I find it funny that they got the sex of the budgie wrong - Blue Cere (nostril area) is a MALE! (0:17 secs in gives you a really good view of the blue cere area).

What a great advert there should be more like this one instead of some of the stupid ones that make no sense at all, this has got to be one of the best adverts I have seen for a long time well done

It seems to be a common thing these days, put a classic song with some cute gimmicky special effects and call it creative. I call it lazy!

coelu19187 Isn`t gender a non issue nowadays ? Harmless smile inducing ad`s are a change from the usual . The creativity came in thinking of the format and music then setting the scene kevin_whittell , cut the studio some slack please .

I had a cat with a Budgie friend in 1972 when living in Toronto. the Bugie and cat were great friends with the cat actually riding on the cat's head. Neither of them sang, however. Sadly, the Budgie flew out of an open window and escaped. The cat went into mourning for two months! This is absolutely true! Debbie60

What a simply lovely heartwarming advert -the cat singing You are my Destiny makes me smile every time. Congratulations and Well Done to everybody who was involved in making a charming advert .which deserves all the good publicity it gets. Everyone I know who has seen it is talking about it - surely just what the advert creators wanted!!! JB and Hobie
