Yahoo’s new UK managing director Stuart Flint is jumping ship to Microsoft- just days after being appointed to the top Yahoo role.

Flint was appointed to the role of Yahoo managing director just 10 days ago, following a restructure which led to the departure of the previous managing director James Wildman.

Now, in a significant blow to Yahoo he has decided to join Microsoft’s UK operation, joining as UK sales director.

Flint will replace Simon Davies, who is relocating to Santa Monica in the US to take on the role of general manager, West Cost, Microsoft advertising online.

It is thought that Flint will not be able to leave Yahoo for another six months due to contract stipulations.

Flint joined Yahoo in 2013 as sales director for UK and Ireland before his brief promotion to managing director.

He has previously worked in senior sales roles at Hearst Digital, and ids, the now defunct sales house Virgin Media.

Yahoo said it was now in the process of recruiting a replacement.

Davies, who has been with Microsoft for two years, will begin his new role in January 2014.

Davies is set to report to Keith Lorizio, the vice-president of sales and marketing at Microsoft. He replaces Vince Messina, who is understood to be moving to another role internally.

He will have responsibility for generating revenues across Microsoft, including its Windows, XBOX and MSN businesses in the west of the US and is expected to lead a team of 40.

It is not known who will replace Flint in the UK.
