Westland Horticulture has appointed Total Media to handle the media planning and buying account for its Peckish bird feed range, using an integrated media package comprising TV, press and online.

In a media first for Westland, Total Media will be scheduling TV advertising to reach out to the family market and increase awareness.

Keith Nicholson, marketing director at Westland Horticulture said of the new initiative: “Westland entered the bird food market in 2011 and has now firmly positioned itself as a market leader in this field. Our research has told us that the market has the potential to be a lot larger than it is now and so through our work with Total Media we will be targeting new customers – in particular families - to drive growth in this category.”

The planning account is worth £500,000.

Andy Travis, media director at Total Media, added: “We are delighted to be working with Westland Horticulture on their seasonal campaign. In conjunction with the client team and creative agency, we have been able to develop clear insights which have enabled us to target our media strategy and implementation in the most effective channels to reach the consumer and grow awareness around Westland. We look forward to continuing our working relationship with the Westland team.”

Total Media was appointed to the account following a competitive pitch. This follows wins from Epson and Lenovo for the agency.
