Sir Terry Leahy, formerly the CEO of Tesco, has become chairman of Starcount’s client council, Star Chamber, as he makes an investment into the company.

The move will see Leahy reunited with Tesco Clubcard pioneers Clive Humby and Edwina Dunn.

In August 2013, founder and group CEO of Starcount Drew Thomson announced the acquisition of H&D Ventures, the business owned by Humby and Dunn, in a move which saw the husband-and-wife duo take a stake in Starcount and seats on the board as executive directors.

Leahy commented: “Just as retailers had to revolutionise their customer engagement practices in the 1990s, brands today are faced with the unique challenges and opportunities presented by social media.

“Starcount is leading the way in social media insight and engagement, changing the old model of marketing for brands across digital platforms. It’s fantastic to join Clive and Edwina on the board at such an exciting time for the business and I look forward to building long term commercial partnerships through Star Chamber.”

Leahy made the investment in Starcount as part of a $10m funding round from both private investors and previous backers.
