854,226 mentions made about Sochi, with 35,000 using #SochiProblems

On the opening day of the Sochi Winter Olympics, there were 854,226 social conversations using the word ‘Sochi’, with figure skating and slopestyle being the most discussed events, with 60,080 and 20,451 mentions, respectively.

The research from Salesforce ExactTarget Marketing Cloud, which includes a real-time infographic of mentions, discovered that #Sochi2014 was by far the most used hashtag with 218,002 mentions.

Similar hashtags such as #Olympics, #Olympics2014, #WinterOlympics, and #Sochi also ranked within the top 10.

#SochiProblems racked up 35,289 mentions, as athletes and journalists arrived to find rooms not ready and some under construction.

At the time of writing, there had been almost 2.5 million conversations about the Sochi Games.
