Valentino has apologised for an ‘innocent mistake’ which saw the company send an email to journalists promoting the fact that Amy Adams was carrying a $2,500 bag from the fashion house at Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s wake.

The email was sent on Friday, but Valentino has since said that it did not know where the images had been taken.

A statement by Mona Swanson, vice-president of communications for Valentino USA, read: “We sincerely regret releasing a photo to the media … of Amy Adams with a Valentino Bag. We were not aware the photograph was taken while she was attending the wake of Philip Seymour Hoffman. It was an innocent mistake and we apologise to Ms Adams who was not aware, or a part of, our PR efforts.”

The wake for Hoffman, who died of a drug overdose, took place on Thursday, 6 February.
