Buzzfeed hires Metro.co.uk online editor Richard James as UK news editor

Buzzfeed is growing its UK team, with the addition of Richard James as UK news editor.

James, who joins from his role of online editor at Metro.co.uk will be responsible for writing and commissioning daily news stories including scoops and trending pieces.

He said: “I am thrilled to be joining BuzzFeed at such an exciting time in the company’s history. The UK launch has been a phenomenal success and I’m looking forward to helping continue its incredible growth.

“Already the home of social content, BuzzFeed is starting to redefine the way news is covered and shared. There is huge potential to develop and grow BuzzFeed’s news output and I can’t wait to get stuck in.”

/news/2013/03/26/buzzfeed-arrives-uk-shores">Buzzfeed launched in the UK in March 2013, with three editorial staff. The appointment of James brings this up to 16.

Buzzfeed also announced that it plans to double this to 30 editorial staff by the end of 2014.
