Peter Capaldi’s may have been a shoe-in for the new Doctor Who but his BBC PR portrait debut hasn’t just got Whovians in a tizzy, it’s also earned the stamp of approval from Loake, the niche footwear manufacturer whose boots Capaldi chose for the shoot.

Fans swiftly spotted the natty footwear and at first assumed they were Dr. Martens but, much to the chagrin of the British Boot Company, the shoes were later identified as being product of a Kettering manufacturer whose wears are sold exclusively via one Camden Town store.

Store owner Nicholas Roumana told the Telegraph: “Peter Capaldi came in a week or two before Christmas and said he was looking for a pair of smart dress boots. I suggested this one, because not only is it very smart, it’s exclusive to us and made in England. It’s a great boot. He bought it in size 10.”

This Tuesday a second pair were snapped up by a BBC costume worker for use by Capaldi’s stunt double.
