Dave Lee Travis has sought to point the finger of blame at social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook for prompting women to come forward with sexual abuse allegations which he is presently trying to fend off in court.

The former Radio 1 DJ even went so far as to suggest that one woman head dreamt the allegations whilst giving evidence under cross-examination at Southwark Crown Court.

Travis maintains that he is ‘astonished’ by the charges leveled against him and assured jurors that he was a ‘normal, decent human being’.

Responding to a query from prosecuting QC Amanda Moore as to why the alleged victims would bother to invent their claims Travis replied that there were ‘umpteen reasons’, adding that one of his accusers had confused dream with reality.

Addressing the jury Travis said: “I would call her an unfortunate person who’s had some sort of mental lapse in terms of not being able to tell the difference between reality and nonsense.”

Travis went on to name Twitter and Facebook, for giving rise to some of the stories, adding; “I’m saying that is one of many possibilities and you can’t go through them all.”

The trial continues.
