George Dymond has quit his role after only weeks as the head of Morrisons’ online operations director, it has emerged.

Shock: Dymond has reportedly quit after just weeks in the role

According the FT, Dymond resigned because the role failed to meet his expectations. The supermarket chain has so far declined to comment on the news, but it’s understood that Dymond has not formally left the company and he may be in talks over another role.

Earlier this month, the brand launched its online grocery service in partnership with Ocado. However, controversy erupted last week when it emerged that Morrisons’ group treasurer and head of tax, Paul Coyle, was arrested in December on suspicion of buying shares in Ocado before the partnership was announced last year.

The news comes after Morrisons’ like-for-like sales over Christmas fell by 5.6 per cent, an issue the supermarket giant partly attributed to a lack of online offering.

Before joining Morrisons, Dymond was group general manager of merchandise for Australian supermarket group Coles, and prior to that he spent 10 years at Carphone Warehouse as trading director.
