Zoopla is to end its sponsorship of Premiership football team West Bromwich Albion following the apparently racist gesture made by striker Nicolas Anelka.

The property website, owned by the Jewish businessman Alex Chesterman, this afternoon released a statement to state that it would end its sponsorship deal after issuing the team with an ultimatum not to the field the player again after he made what is considered an antisemitic gesture known as the quenelle after scoring against West Ham.

"Zoopla has worked closely with the club and the local community throughout its two-season sponsorship, having committed over £100,000 to the Albion Foundation and other local charities, and will continue to meet its obligations for the rest of the current season,” the club said.

Since making the gesture, Anelka has promised from refraining from doing so again.
