The Mayor of London will write the cover story for the campaign, which aims to “build on the spirit” of the 2012 London Olympic Games and introduce ‘Team London’ to encourage Londoners to use volunteering as a way of supporting young people into future employment.

Chairman of the British Olympic Association and Telegraph columnist Lord Coe will contribute to the campaign with an article introducing ‘Join In’, a government-funded organisation aiming to raise the profile of volunteering.

Mark Skipworth, executive editor, TMG, said: “We are thrilled to be launching the ‘Lend a Hand’ campaign in Weekend this Saturday, particularly with the backing of our guest editor, Boris Johnson.

“Boris and the Telegraph’s support for volunteering shows our continued commitment to building on the legacy of the 2012 Games and we hope to inspire our readers to volunteer.”

The Weekend section will also feature interviews with celebrities to promote the campaign, including cook and TV presenter Thomasina Miers and fashion designer Wayne Hemmingway.
