The Drum Network event to focus on building profitable and saleable agencies

Last year saw plenty of M&A activity in the UK's independent agency sector and how you can build a successful agency - one that attracts the attention of potential buyers in the future - is the theme for The Drum Network’s next chapter event being held in Manchester.

Walford will be offering insights on building profit in agencies

On Thursday 6th February, The Drum Network will bring Tony Walford, the founder of leading corporate advisory company Green Square, to Manchester to speak to agency owners and directors about the M&A activity that the industry saw during 2013 and what they learn from the deals that took place to help them build the type of agency that will attract attention in the future.

During the evening event Walford will cover areas such as why you need to run your agency as if you are going to sell it tomorrow, how independent agencies can attract the attention of potential suitors, what acquisitive groups and networks are looking for in agencies and where potential buyers of your agency could come from in the years ahead.

Walford, a regular blogger for The Drum on agency M&As, has been involved in many agency acquisitions during his career and will also outline many of the financial and legal pitfalls many agency owners don’t take into account when buying or selling an agency, which ultimately costs them money.

Speaking of the event The Drum Network’s MD, Richard Draycott, said: “Tony came to speak at an event in Leeds for me last year and I was blown away by his knowledge in the area of agency M&A. You might not be an MD considering selling your agency in the near future, but Tony’s advice will ensure that the agency you are running today is being run as efficiently and profitably as possible, which will serve you well as you move forward and give you plenty of options in the years ahead.

“He is a real mine of information with regards to the mistakes many agency owners make when negotiating takeover deals, which ultimately lose them hundreds of thousands of pounds on the deal, and he is well worth meeting and getting to know at this event.”
