The BBC has rolled out a trial version of its Connected Red Button service, compatible with a range of Samsung and Sony smart TVs, which will enable viewers to access a wealth of additional content including TV shows, news, sport and weather.

Depressing the red button on the remote control of a compatible telly will enable the viewer to watch BBC TV programmes from channels such as BBC Three, BBC Four, CBBC and CBeebies, at any time – even if the channel is off air.

It will also allow people to catch on missed shows and experiment with alternative camera angles and view additional content for sport and music events such as Glastonbury, Wimbledon and Formula 1.

Roux Joubert, general manager, products & on demand at the BBC, said: “Since the launch of Connected Red Button in 2012, the BBC has brought audiences more of the content they love on their TV – by simply pressing red. We’re thrilled to extend this to even more viewers – and look forward to adding more features and functionality in 2014 – which promises to be another an epic year of live events from the BBC.”
