It seemed a bold prediction from Dell. Last month the company launched a pair of UltraSharp monitors with 4K resolution, and promised a forthcoming 28-inch Ultra HD monitor that would retail for less than $1000.

Dell's new monitor: cheaper than they said

Yesterday they delivered! At CES 2014 in Las Vegas they revealed the monitor, along with what Forbes called an “aggressive “price tag: $699

The P2815Q will have a 3840 x 2160 4K UHD resolution. It launches globally on January 23. Dell promises the same “screen performance” as the new UltraSharp 32 and UltraSharp 24 Ultra HD monitors.

The monitor is able to pivot to portrait mode as well as a range of adjustable viewing heights and angles. Also available: accessories like a stereo sound bar and monitor arm.

The tech industry at large, says Forbes, is making a concentrated push toward mainstream Ultra HD adoption this year.

A wealth of readily available 4K content is an important driver, says the magazine , adding , "Pricepoints like $699 “certainly don’t hurt.”
