What's in the box? Believe it or not, it's a new car, ordered from Amazon

This is probably the biggest Amazon package ever delivered …so far. It contains a new car, being delivered to a family in Madison, Wisconsin.

Nissan ran a co-promotion with Amazon last autumn, offering customers the opportunity to order a brand new 2014 Nissan Versa Note through the Amazon website -- the first time anything like that's been done.

The stunt was to be a big surprise, said Erich Marx, Nissan North America's director of interactive and social media marketing. Only website Reddit got there first with some exclusive pics this week.

The official video will be released next week.

Three cars are to be delivered this way. The car in the picture was the first.

Marx said: “The customer was thrilled with the delivery. He had a good sense of humour about it. We delivered the Versa on Sunday, and he also got a $1,000 Amazon gift card to go along with it.”

The actual purchase wasn’t completed on the Amazon website. The transaction had to take place with a dealer.

And what about disposing of that giant cardboard box?

Marx said they helped the customer unload his Versa, then they took away the cardboard.

Marx said The original idea came from Nissan agency TBWA\Chiat\Day. "They mentioned it, and we all kind of laughed and thought, 'Wouldn't that be funny?' " said Marx.

"But over the course of a few days, we kept coming back to it and said, 'Why not deliver a car in an Amazon box?'… It's never really been done. I think the visual is pretty hilarious.”

So what’s next? A double-decker bus?
