Harvey Nichols has revealed that former chief financial officer and executive vice president of Burberry Group, Stacey Cartwright, will be joining the luxury department store as its new CEO, replacing Joseph Wan who retires after 21 years at the helm in March 2014.

During Cartwright’s nine years with Burberry she played a leading role in increasing brand turnover from £676m in 2004 when she joined to over £2bn in 2013. She was also responsible for overseeing Burberry’s transition into new markets including China and the Middle East.

“I am delighted to be joining Harvey Nichols at such an exciting time in the luxury retail market; a market which demonstrates significant potential and for which I have enormous passion. I am excited by the opportunity to further develop this world class brand both in the UK and internationally,” said Cartwright of her appointment.

Out-going Harvey Nichols CEO, Wan commented: “Nothing gives me greater pleasure than handing over to Stacey a stronger Harvey Nichols than the one I joined. I wish Stacey well in her new role and under her leadership, I look forward to seeing Harvey Nichols growing from strength to strength.”

Dr. Dickson Poon, Harvey Nichols group chairman, added that Cartwright’s appointment “underlines our commitment to raising the bar even higher…strengthening both our leadership team and the exceptional service, products and experience we give to our customers at home and abroad.”

Cartwright will take up her new role on Monday 17 February 2014.
