Guy Zitter, managing director of Daily Mail and General Trust Mail (DMGT) newspapers is unlikely to be directly replaced, with senior management expected to absorb his responsibilities.

Zitter, who is stepping down from his role in March after 32 years with the company, will remain as non-executive but will not be directly replaced.

DMG Media chief executive Kevin Beatty will take on many of his responsibilities, while it is understood the existing senior management team which includes group advertisement director Rosemary Gorman and chief marketing officer Roland Agambar, will take on additional responsibilities as part of the reshaping.

Beatty said in a statement to The Drum: “Guy has made a fantastic contribution to the strength and progress of the Mail titles over the years and I am delighted that he has agreed to continue providing his experience (and humour) in a non-executive role after he steps down.”

Zitter will continue to work closely with Beatty up to March 2014 to ensure a smooth transition.

The news comes as DMGT chief executive Martin Morgan revealed the publishing company’s ambitions to include the development of its consumer media business, its B2B companies and a diversification into high-growth markets.

It also reported an increase in its pre-tax profit for 2013 of £282m.
