Sony has announced plans to capitalise on its extensive back catalogue of games by making them available to play on its latest range of Smart TV’s via a newly launched PlayStation Now service.

The cloud gaming platform allows subscribers to access Sony’s extensive back catalogue without the need to own a console by streaming titles direct from its own servers. It also means that PlayStation 4 owners will be able to run PlayStation 3 titles indirectly.

PS Vita owners will also gain access to the library courtesy of a custom app.

At the moment the service is exclusive to owners of Sony’s own range of smart TV’s but there are plans to roll it out to third party products in future.

A trial version of the scheme will debut in the US this month prior to a global rollout over the summer.
