Apple App Store makes $10bn in 2013 with December raking in $1bn becoming its most successful month ever

Customers spent more than $10bn in the Apple App Store in 2013, according to figures released by Apple, with over $1bn made in December alone thanks to almost three billion app downloads last month, making it the most successful month in App Store history.

“We’d like to thank our customers for making 2013 the best year ever for the App Store,” remarked Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. “The lineup of apps for the holiday season was astonishing and we look forward to seeing what developers create in 2014.”

App Store hits last year included Candy Crush Saga, Puzzles & Dragons, Minecraft, QuizUp and Clumsy Ninja, and according to results app developers have made around $15bn on the App Store.

Developers to watch in 2014 are Duolingo, Simogo, Plain Vanilla Corp, Atypical Games, Lemonista, BASE, Savage Interative, and UK-based Frogmind.
