Royal Mail is celebrating over 60 years of classic children’s TV with a new stamp collection, kicking off its Special Stamp programme for 2014.

A total of 12 favourites will feature in the set including Andy Pandy, Mr Benn, Peppa Pig, Postman Pat, Shaun the Sheep, Bagpuss and The Magic Roundabout’s Dougal, which celebrate their 40th and 50th anniversaries this year respectively.

“For over 60 years, Britain’s children’s TV characters have brought cheer to generations of viewers. More importantly it has presented us with a cast of characters that, like the memories of the programmes themselves, remain with us throughout our lives. It feels appropriate to celebrate all of these unforgettable characters on a set of very special stamps,” said Andrew Hammond of Royal Mail Stamps.

Each decade since the 1950s is represented in the collection, with many older favourites set to make a return in the coming years as 2014 sees the UK cinema release of ‘Postman Pat: The Movie’ and ‘Paddington’. The Wombles are also poised for a TV return in 2015 with a new CGI series.
