BT has apologised after Ofcom found it to be the most complained-about telecom company in the UK.

According to the regulator, complaints doubled this quarter from the previous, going up from 0.26 complaints per 1,000 subscribers to 0.56.

It had the highest volume of complaints about BT TV between July and September, seeing a peak in complaints during the launch of BT Sport in August.

The company apologised in a statement, saying: "While these complaints represent a fraction of one per cent of those customers, we are disappointed with the result, and we accept that we failed to reach the high standards that customers expect."

Rival Virgin Media had 0.05 complaints per 1,000 customers while Sky saw 0.02 per 1,000.

Meanwhile EE received the most complaints for broadband services, which it blamed on billing and service faults for Orange and T-Mobile.

TalkTalk fielded 0.31 complaints per 1,000 customers in the third quarter. Despite being at the lowest level since Ofcom first began publishing complaints data, complaints for TalkTalk are still above the industry average.
