Beyonce has delivered an early Christmas present to fans by releasing her latest album on iTunes last night without any fanfare or pre-publicity.

Shorning any form of hype the 14 songs and 17 music videos were simply uploaded for people to purchase with the 32 7ear-old simply saying ‘Surprise!’ in a press release.

Commenting on the unconventional and instantaneous launch the singer said it allowed her to ‘speak directly to my fans’ after she became ‘bored’ with the more traditional approach.

Beyonce added that she had been inspired by watching Michael Jackson’s 1983 Thriller video premiere, adding: “I miss that immersive experience," she said. "Now people only listen to a few seconds of song on the iPods and they don't really invest in the whole experience.

"It's all about the single, and the hype. I felt like, I don't want anybody to get the message when my record is coming out.

"I just want this to come out when it's ready and from me to my fans."

The album is available exclusively on iTunes for one week and will not appear in stores until 21 December.
