Metro.co.uk credits social media for record online traffic
Metro.co.uk has cited social media as a vital component in its online growth as it reached 20.1 million monthly global unique visitors for the first time.
The figures – which are up 24 per cent month-on-month and 161 per cent year-on-year – are credited to Facebook’s decision to increase its traffic to publishers, making social media a key factor in this growth.
In addition to the 20.1 million global monthly unique visitors, metro.co.uk also broke the 10 million unique visitors mark in the UK for the first time, recording 10.4 million in total – up 21 per cent month-on-month and 112 per cent year-on-year.
Monthly unique visitors from mobile were up 30 per cent month-on-month and 277 per cent year-on-year, topping 10.5 million, with 52 per cent of all traffic coming from mobile.
Monthly unique visitors from social media sites are up 839 per cent from January 2013 to November, accounting for 30 per cent of all metro.co.uk traffic in the month of November, an increase of 19 per cent from October.
