A karaoke Christmas stunt by Heineken has got all America laughing or covering their ears in horror

Working with Wieden + Kennedy in New York, Heineken invited a bunch of people—presumably plied with promises of unlimited Heineken, says Adweek—to participate in an evening of "Carol Karaoke" in a small studio.

What the victims didn’t know was that behind the curtain was a TV studio linked by Heineken to broadcast the performances live in Times Square in New York , on taxi screens around the city and on the Jumbotron at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.

After a few rounds of "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" and "Jingle Bells," Heineken reveals the prank. The karaoke-ers can ditch the mike or continue singing the carol … for 30,000 strangers.

Surprisingly a good number were willing to share their vocal talents with thousands of people, as you can see here. Unsurprisingly, none of them were very good singers

As Adweek put it, "You know what? It's not about talent. It's about the holiday spirit! (And also marketing stunts.) “ A wise elf once said, "The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear."
