Penguin UK has joined forces with digital agency Weapon7 to create a Facebook app that will share the gift of stories, old and new, this Christmas.

The application is centred on an interactive illustration inspired by Raymond Briggs’ The Snowman filled with 23 hidden objects from Penguin Books, including Peter Rabbit’s blue jacket, Alice in Wonderland’s ‘Drink Me’ potion, a portrait of Oscar Wilde’s Dorian Gray, a Jamie Oliver cookbook and Jennifer Saunders’ autobiography.

By clicking on the objects users will be able to discover Penguin’s book catalogue and will be able to enjoy a discount on Penguin.co.uk.

Layla West, digital channels director, Penguin, commented: “Weapon7 have helped us to create an app that combines three things that everyone enjoys at Christmas: nostalgia, sharing stories with their loved ones and, of course, presents, whilst showcasing the breadth of our publishing in a delightful, typically Penguin way.”

Weapon 7 executive creative director Jeremy Garner, added: “We’re really excited to launch this app which we feel captures what makes Penguin Books so special, through a series of unforgettable objects, from unforgettable stories.”

The app is supported via Penguin’s social media platforms, and forms part of Penguin’s Christmas campaign to showcase its range of authors at Christmas.
