The CEO of photo sharing app Snapchat, Evan Spiegel, has filed a restraining order in a US court to prevent a former classmate sharing videos that refer to his contribution to the site ideas.

The restraining order is against Reggie Brown, who claims to have co-founded the app.

The videos had previously been leaked online and widely circulated.

Brown raised legal proceedings against Snapchat in February this year.

The restraining order, filed in court on Friday, says the videos are confidential under a Protective Order as part of the ongoing lawsuit.

"Snapchat will suffer great or irreparable injury if plaintiff is permitted to disclose Snapchat’s confidential information to the public. A temporary restraining order is therefore necessary," it says.

Snapchat was approached for purchase by Facebook last month for a reported $4 billion.
