Pop Secret, a popcorn brand, has launched what it is claiming to be the first scented smartphone game – and fans are willing to shell out upwards of $150 to give it a go.

Developed by Deutsch LA, the Poptopia mobile app has challenged gamers to try and pop as many kernels on their touchscreen phones. Every time the user is successful in the game, a sweet or salted popcorn scent is emitted from the phone.

However, to get whiff of the popcorn smell a Pop Dongle has to be plugged into the phone’s audio jack. When the game transmits a certain frequency, it signals the dongle to start spritzing.

A dedicated Poptopia site has been created, hosting a video showing the game in action and a link to the eBay site where the limited edition dongles can be purchased.

At the time of writing, bids on the remaining Dongle had reached $152.50, with three days to of auctioning still to go. The company has stated that all proceeds made from the auction will go to the American Red Cross.

The game can still be downloaded from the App Store and played without the dongle attached.
